Theme : TOWARDS A WORLD WITHOUT EXECUTIONS
Date : 5-7th July, 2002
Venue : Cahaya Suara Communications Centre, Pudu
(Beside Puduraya/Opposite Tung Shin Hospital)
Based on the success of our past two attempts to use film as tool to
create awareness on human rights in Malaysia, Amnesty International
Malaysia is proud to present its Film Workshop 2002. This year's workshop
is themed '"TOWARDS A WORLD WITHOUT EXECUTIONS...". Opposition to the death
penalty in the context of political prisoners was part of AI's vision right
from the start. AI continues to work for abolition by regularly monitoring
developments, collecting information worldwide and organizing an on-goin g
program of work against the death penalty in cooperation with other human
rights organizations and governments. Come join us on our three uniquely
themed evenings which would explore the Death Penalty as a human rights
violation from the perspectives listed below

DAY 1 :
Theme : The Death Penalty in history - a violation of the right to life
Time : 7.30pm
Documentary : Executions
Film : A Lesson before dying

DAY 2 :
The Death Penalty in Asia - not a unique deterrent
Time : 7.30pm
Doc : The Death Penalty in China
Film : The Chamber

Theme (Day 3) :
A prisoner on death row - cruel inhuman and degrading punishment
Time : 4pm
Documentary : The Next Step
Film : Last Dance

On each day there will be a speaker who will facilitate a discussion on the
theme of the day as well as an exhibition on the death penalty outside the
auditorium.

Entrance is by a minimum donation of RM 10 (Students: Minimum - RM5 ) and
on a first come first serve basis

Looking for something to do next Wednesday night? Thinking about
throwing caution to the wind and possibly having an intense ringing
in your ear for Thursday? Well Saturnalia 2 is on next Wednesday and
your turnout/support would be immensely appreciated. It's basically a
continuation of the previous Saturnalia's aim at bringing some off
kilter bands to the fore and sharing some good vibes. Expect
everything from dizzying electronic sounds, intricate classical
scales and all out white noise assaults.
