LIQUID NEWS

hello party people,

We're almost approaching the end of 2002, and the new year will be with
us in about 4 months. We dont know whether it's a scary thought as time
seems to be moving way too fast but you know what they say,

"Time flies when you're having fun!"

Now that's a thought to start your day!
Last week we had the annual mayhem that was The Beach Party 4 and what a
party it was. Not your normal night out but we hope you guys had enjoyed
it despite some of the unfortunate things that happened that night. So
please be more careful next time, and in the midst of enjoying yourself,
do think of the safety of others. Regardless, we hope that some of you
had relived your mermaid fantasies to good effect.

days. Let's consider this week Music Updates a classic revisit. See if
your all time fave also made it into this list by yours truly.

Liquid's Top Ten Classics!

1.Alison Limerick - Where Love Lives
If there's anything that deserves such honour, this is this track. So
Come On DOwn To Where Love Lives!

2.DeLacy - Hideaway
"Im an independent woman, I dont need no man to try and take care of
me". I Will Survive for the mid nineties set.

3.Donna Summer - I Feel Love
She was the queen, and to some, she still is. The most futuristic track
that ever came out of the late seventies/early eighties. Still sounds
crisps today.

4.Madonna - Holiday.
Still gets you going, jumping around like a retarded monkey. Need we say
more?

5.Ultra Nate - Found A Cure.
"Free" was bigger, but this was the one with the meat. Sampling that
guitar lick from Eric Clapton. Fabulous!

6.Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams.\
Have Annie ever looked more tantalizingly butch than this? An anthem
that will rock you anytime!

7.Barbara Tucker - Beautiful People.
The song that raised Ms.Tucker from an underground disco diva to the top
of the racks. Beautifullll People.

8.Funky Green Dogs - Fired Up.
So New York but yet so you. Still sounds fresh today.

9.Lil Louis - French Kiss
Too hot for 1988! Still hot today.

10.Kylie - Confide In Me.
This is when she first started flexing a slightly more serious dance
diva wings. To those who only knew the 80's Kylie and her current sexpot
Kylie, revisit her first Deconstruction album and be amazed.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION at No Black Tie

NBT kicks off its 2nd anniversary celebration with Japanese jazz pianist/composer EMIKO KAI. EMIKO will perform for the first time at NBT. Those who caught her jamming at NBT earlier this year will remember her for the amazingly beautiful tone she creates playing the piano. EMIKO will be joined by STEVE THORNTON on percussion, ZAILAN RAZAK on bass and LEWIS PRAGASAM on drums.

Music at 10:30pm.

EMIKO KAI
Born in Tokyo, Ms. Kai started playing piano at the age of four. As a student at Aoyama Gakuin High School, she began work in music arrangement, composition and piano accompaniment for ballet. In the seventies, her talent was recognized by the outstanding jazz vocalist Martha Miyake. By playing together with Ms.Miyake, she deepened her understanding of jazz standards. While studying the work of such artists as Bill Evans, Keith Jarret and many others, she continued to develop her own style. Her excellent interpretations with a poetic turn of mind based on her profound knowledge of the standards earned her the trust and admiration of many singers.

Her first album "Emily" was released by King Records in 1978. In 1979, she released "Live at the Carnival" on the Victor label, followed by "My Way" and "Mr. Lonely", released by Toshiba EMI. Later she signed an exclusive contract with CBS/Sony . Her first works released as a CBS /Sony artist were "Emerald City" and "Crystal Echo". In 1989, she went to New York to record a compilation of her works entitled "Some Other World" together with members of the famed Gill Evan's Orchestra.

With arrangements by Gill Goldstein, the modern sound of the jazz orchestra was combined with Emiko's gorgeous piano-playing to create an exquisite blend which could be described as an extremely modernistic symphonic poem. In 1987, Ms. Kai and her own quartet toured four cities in India and performed thirteen concerts which won the highest praise from both audiences and newspaper critics.

In 1990, Ms. Kai visited Wimbledon where she composed a suite which conveyed her impressions of this mecca of tennis. Between 1990 and 1995, several pieces of music from this suite were played on NHK-TV satellite broadcasts of the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament during intermissions between matches.

While traveling around Scandinavia twice between 1991 and 1992, she wrote a few new compositions which were performed for the first time at the "Kai
Emiko Jazz Odyssey " concert in October 1994.This concert was later broadcast on NHK-FM in March 1995.

Between 1995 and 1998, Ms. Kai visited Sicily, Turkey, Bali and Alaska to develop new material. In May 1997, at the Women's Jazz Festival she
performed with American female musicians led by Ingrid Jantzen. In June 2000, she held a big concert, Kai Emiko Jazz Odyssey Cosmo, in order to show her new music concept, Earth & Space. Also in 2000 she published a book, f?Radiance of Music Notef'. Since then, because of her music concept, Earth & Space, she has visited many occasions of astronomical activities. In 2001 January, Her new CD was released, Tear of EOS. It was a theme music of January eclipse that was broadcasted to a whole world through Internet. In June 2001, her new music, Mirabilia, was live-broadcasted through Internet. Because of the theme music of the eclipse of the moon, she and her band went to Africa in order to make a live broadcasting. November 2001, she wrote a new piece, Jupiter in Rains, for the occasion of Meteor. In 2002, her music concept, Earth & Space, has been appealed to space scientists, which brings forth another new trial of fusion, Muses-C & Music.

My past life as a dog
For 12 years, Buddhist nun Tenzin Palmo meditated alone in a tiny cave in Tibet. Now she wants to elevate the status of other Buddhist women, believed to be reincarnated as females as punishment for past mistakes.
