"Obsessed with Breasts" Ad Campaign
is designed to be attention-getting, thought-provoking and to lead viewers to TBCF's website and other educational programs.

America is obsessed with breasts. Movies, television, magazines and newspapers all include images of women with partially and fully exposed breasts. Symbolizing both sexuality and nurture, the female breast receives considerable attention.

Obsession, however, indicates much more. It creates a "must have" stereotype through which sexuality and nurture are no longer perceived. In this excessive stereotyping, breasts become props -- objects -- distancing us from the appropriate honoring of the female breast -- and, ultimately, from protecting the health of breasts and the lives of women.

Unfortunately, the breasts and the lives of American women are being threatened by breast cancer at unacceptable levels. The San Francisco Bay Area has one of the highest rates of breast cancer in the world. That is why The Breast Cancer Fund (TBCF) is launching a new public awareness campaign in this community: "Obsessed with Breasts." The campaign is designed to be attention-getting, thought-provoking and to lead viewers to TBCF's website and other educational programs, where they can connect with critical information and ways to become more involved in the issue.

The campaign is predicated upon The Breast Cancer Fund's belief that an educated and engaged public is essential to the ultimate eradication of breast cancer.
